FIA arrests passenger for travelling on fake visa to Spain

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration on Sunday arrested a passenger who was trying to travel to Spain on a fake visa, ARY News reported. According to FIA spokesperson, Babar Iqbal was taken into custody by the FIA team from Multan International Airport. The visa of the passenger was found forged during immigration clearance. The arrested passenger is a resident of Gujrat. FIA spokesperson further said the accused had been transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Multan for further legal action. At least 20 injured in Sheikhupura train crash

Sheikhupura: At least 20 passengers including women and children were injured as two trains collided with each other near Qilla Sattar Shah in Sheikhupura district on Sunday, ARY News reported quoting police. The accident occurred after a Mianwali-bound passenger train hit a freight train already parked on the main railway line, say police. Soon after the incident, the rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital where five victims are said to be in critical condition. On August 6, at least 25 people were killed and over 100 sustained injuries when 10 bogies of Hazara Express traveling from Karachi to Rawalpindi derailed near Nawab Shah. Railway officials reported that the tragic incident occurred near Saharai Railway Station, located between Shahzadpur and Nawabshah when the Hazara Express was en route from Karachi. Shikarpur: Police foil sugar, urea smuggling to Afghanistan

SHIKARPUR: Police during an action at the National Highway seized 26 trucks loaded with sugar and urea in Shikarpur, ARY News reported on Sunday. The raid was carried out at the National Highway by the New Fojdari police station cops on a tip-off. During the action as many as 350 tonnes of sugar and 11,254 urea bags were recovered. The sugar and urea were to be smuggled to Afghanistan, the police said and added that the seized sugar and urea are being transferred to the food department. A countrywide crackdown is underway against the smuggling on the orders of the caretaker government. Medical stores selling fake medicines sealed in Karachi

KARACHI: Almost two medical stores were sealed in Karachi for selling unregistered and fake medicines on Saturday, ARY News reported. According to details, the district administration has launched a crackdown in South District against selling of unregistered and fake medicines, and hoarding of life-saving drugs. During the crackdown, the administration imposed Rs0.38 million on almost 20 medical stores and also sealed two shops in the Garden area. The raids were carried out in Clifton, Gizri, Lyari General Hospital, Chakiwara, Lea Market and other areas in South District. On September 4, Sindh’s Directorate General (DG) Health took note of drug price hikes and black marketing and directed the District Health Office (DHO) to take immediate actions under police supervision. DG Health in his letter to Drug Inspector sought a report from the drug officer for non-supply of medicines and sales of medicine in black-market. Punjab decides to end subsidy on wheat

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Department has decided to end subsidy worth billion on the issuance of the government wheat quota, ARY News reported on Wednesday. The concerned officials told the media that the price of the government wheat was fixed at Rs3,900 per maund and the disbursement from the government quota to the flour mills will be started on October 15. Under the government quota, wheat will be sold to 1,000 operational flour mills at the price of Rs4,450 per maund. The officials added that a 20-kilogram sack of flour will be sold at Rs2,600 after the issuance of the government wheat quota, whereas, the flour sack of 20-kilogram is being sold at Rs2,750 in the open market. 450,000 sacks of hoarded commodities seized in Karachi’s Keamari

KARACHI: Security institutions and district administration seized over 450,000 sacks of hoarded essential commodities including sugar, black and white gram (channa), corn and other items in Karachi’s Keamari, ARY News reported on Wednesday. ISLAMABAD: In a bid to attract foreign investors and businesses, the caretaker government of Pakistan has approved amendments to the country’s visa policy, under which foreign investors will receive a 6-month business visa within 24 hours, ARY News reported on Tuesday. According to the details, the federal cabinet has given a green light to the amendments in the visa policy, after which – on the recommendation of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) – a 6-month business visa will be issued immediately. ‘Punctuality of trains reached 76% to 92% in last four months’

ISLAMABAD: The overall punctuality ratio of trains has improved from 76 to 92 per cent in four months owing to close monitoring and stern measures taken by Pakistan Railways at the divisional and ministry levels, a Pakistan Railways official said Sunday. “With the punctuality of trains and concrete measures taken by the department in last four months, the number of passengers has increased by over 20 million, which is ample proof of the department’s achievement,” the state news agency quoted a PR official. ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Health Minister Dr Nadeem Jan on Saturday vowed that his ministry was providing and utilising all available resources to eradicate polio from Pakistan permanently till the end of the year 2023. “Polio-free Pakistan’ is a national goal which is now close to our mission of ending polio”, he said while talking to a private news channel. He assured that the caretaker government is making all out efforts to root out the polio virus from the country and these endeavors will produce positive results. Police, Rangers joint session discuss operation in Katcha area

LARKANA: A meeting jointly headed by Police and Rangers officials was briefed on a full throttled operation against bandits and their support network in katcha area, ARY News reported on Saturday. The meeting headed by DIG Javed Jiskani and Rangers officials, was briefed on operational details. “Pakistan Army troops and intelligence agencies would also be part of the operation,” the session was briefed. “This operation will also be launched in pakka area along with the katcha area and will continue until complete annihilation of bandits,” the session was informed. “The mobile phone and internet services will be suspended in katcha areas during the operation,” meeting briefed. “All entry and exit points of the area will be kept under thorough checking during the operation in katcha area,” officials informed. Petrol, diesel prices go up again

The government has made a massive hike in petrol and diesel prices after making tall claims of providing relief to the masses, ARY News reported.  A massive hike of Rs26.2 per litre was made on petrol and the new price would be Rs331.38 per litre. Moreover, Rs17.34 was jacked up on diesel and the new price would be Rs329.18 per litre. Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) claimed to gradually reduce the inflation while announcing the new monetary policy.
