K-Electric seeks another hike in power tariff

ISLAMABAD: K-Electric has sought an increase in power tariff under quarterly fuel adjustment by Rs0.57 per unit, a joint secretary of the power division said. The power division official said that the power tariff of the K-Electric will be increased under adjustment for the first three months of 2022. “The power tariff of K-Electric is already fewer than other companies,” he said, adding that despite an increase, the sole power utility in the country will get a subsidy of Rs3.98 per unit. The NEPRA officials said that the average tariff for K-Electric is Rs25.52 per unit and after an approval in tariff hike, it will rise to Rs26.08 per unit. Moreover, the NEPRA announced that it has launched a probe into a technical fault in Guddu power plant as its closure is resulting in Rs350 million losses. “We are also keeping an eye on Neelum Jhelum project and an error could be identified after clearing the project’s tunnel of water,” the NEPRA said. LAHORE: Punjab chief minister (CM) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Monday decided to expand services of Rescue 1122 services across the province, ARY News reported. Emergency services of Rescue 1122 will be expended in 86 more Tehsils of Punjab. CM Pervaiz Elahi said the services will be expended to provide relief to the masses of the province. Punjab CM further said motorbike rescue services will also be expended to the 27 districts of the province during the current fiscal year. Motorway police starts satellite monitoring of passengers buses

ISLAMABAD: The Motorway police have started satellite monitoring of passengers’ buses across the country to control overspeeding, ARY News reported on Monday.   In a statement, Sector Commander Motorway said that over 6500 passengers’ buses were being monitored with trackers. The motorway police were tracking intercity and interprovincial buses. The Sector Commander said that the police held a meeting with transporters of the passengers’ buses with trackers. He further said that access to the tracker system has been installed in the Sector office. Giving details of the monitoring, the Sector Commander Motorway said that the police check speed of the passenger buses with the tracker system. Karachi to witness another spell of heavy rain from August 06: Met Office  

KARACHI: Karachi is expected to receive heavy rainfall from August 06 as the rain spell will enter the eastern part of the Sindh province from August 05, the Met Office said on Monday. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the weather turned pleasant today after the city received drizzle early in the morning. “The weather will remain cloudy as the city recorded a temperature at 28C and will decline upto 26.5C,” it said, adding that humidity will remain at 92 percent and winds will blow at 11 nautical miles. The Met Office said that a spell of heavy rain is expected in eastern Sindh from August 5 to 8 while Karachi will witness heavy showers from August 06 to 08. Schools see low attendance due to light showers in Karachi

KARACHI: Several private schools across Karachi witnessed low attendance on the first day of reopening of the academic activities after summer vacations, ARY News reported. Schools in North Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and other areas remained closed due to overnight showers that continued till morning. In many schools, children were sent back to their houses due to low attendance, while teachers remained in attendance at the schools. Pakistan reports one death, 656 fresh Covid-19 cases

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 656 fresh Covid-19 cases and one coronavirus-related death during the last 24 hours, ARY News reported on Monday. The National Institute of Health (NIH) stated that during the past 24 hours, a total of 19,611 tests COVID-19 diagnostic tests were conducted, of which 656 samples came back positive. RAWLAKOT: At least ten have died as roof of a house collapsed in Tatta Pani, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) after heavy rains, ARY News reported on Monday. SHIKARPUR: In a shocking incident, a Shikarpur man allegedly killed his elderly mother after she failed to cook food for him on time, ARY News reported on Saturday. KECH: Six terrorists were killed while a Pakistan Army soldier embraced martyred during an operation conducted by security forces in the general area of Hoshab, district Kech, the military’s media wing said on Friday. LAHORE: In order to maintain law and order situation and avoid any untoward incident, the Punjab government has imposed a ban on pillion riding for 9th and 10th of Muharram across the province, ARY News reported. SAHIWAL: At least six persons including five women have lost their lives in a roof collapse incident that took place in Sahiwal during heavy rainfall. 18 persons sustained injuries in the horrific incident, ARY News reported on Thursday. ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday released schedule for by-elections on three Punjab vacant seats, two in the Punjab Assembly and one from National Assembly, ARY News reported. Met Office predicts more rains for Sindh

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday predicted more rains in Sindh, including Karachi, from today till Friday. “The low-pressure area causing widespread heavy rains in Sindh has moved westward, towards the Oman coast. The low over Rajasthan, India now lies over northwest Rajasthan and adjoining northeast Sindh,” it said in a statement. KARACHI: Jammat-e-Islami (JI) has sent a Rs500 million legal notice to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for accusing the party of filing an application for postponement of second phase of local government (LG) elections in Sindh, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
