CTD guns down two ‘terrorists’ in Karachi

KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have killed two suspected terrorists of banned outfit in an operation in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maymar area, ARY News on Saturday. According to details, the security force conducted the operation on intelligence reports of presence of terrorists in a house in Janjal Goth near Gulshan-e-Maymar. The CTD team reached the site and surrounded the terrorists, a spokesperson said. During the gun battle, two terrorists of the banned outfit were shot dead while four CTD officials sustained bullet injuries. A woman and a child were also present in the house during the operation, the CTD spokesperson added. The spokesperson further said the woman and the girl remained unhurt and were taken into custody. Islamabad reports 104 new dengue cases

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital has reported 104 more dengue cases in the last 24 hours taking the total tally of cases to 2,435 in the current season, ARY News reported quoting District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad. Overall 1,379 dengue cases have been reported in rural and 952 have emerged from urban areas of Islamabad. The total number of dengue cases has gone up to 2,435 cases while six people have lost their lives to the viral disease in the current year. On Friday, the federal capital reported 96 more dengue cases, taking the total tally of cases to 2,331 in the current season, District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad reported. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has blamed the federal government for attempting to divert from audio leaks by missing cypher claims, ARY News reported on Friday. QUETTA: Flour crisis continues in Balochistan, as the per kg price of flour has reached between Rs120 to 125m ARY News reported. According to details, the prices of flour have skyrocketed in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan while the commodity was not available in most shops across the province. Lahore: One more person lost their life to dengue in Punjab, taking the death tally to nine, and total cases to 6,378, ARY News reported citing Secretary Health.  At least 997 dengue patients are under treatment in hospitals across Punjab. Rupee strengthens against dollar in interbank

KARACHI: Pakistani rupee continued to recover in the interbank, extending its gains against the US dollar for the sixth consecutive session, ARY News reported on Friday. According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the local currency was changing hands at Rs228.50 per dollar after gaining Rs1.63 during intraday trading in interbank. Meanwhile, the greenback was being traded at Rs227 to Rs229 in the open market, the association added. The rupee has been recovering for the sixth consecutive session after falling close to an all-time low of Rs239.94 on Sept 22. ISLAMABAD: The protest of farmers in Islamabad who have gathered under the umbrella of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad on Friday entered the third day, ARY News reported. The farmers are demanding the restoration of the previous tubewell electricity tariff of Rs5.3 per unit and abolishing all taxes and adjustments. IRSA forecast 18 pc water shortage in Rabi cropping season

ISLAMABAD: The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has forecast 18 per cent of water shortage during the forthcoming Rabi cropping season, ARY News reported on Thursday. LHC summons DG PEMRA over Nawaz Sharif, Dar’s speeches

LAHORE: A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) Thursday against the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for allowing media coverage of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and incumbent Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.  The petition was filed after Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar appeared on different TV channels, including PTV. The plaintiff said the PEMRA imposed a ban on the broadcast of speeches of absconders and proclaimed offenders but despite of it, the speeches of Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq were being allowed to be broadcast. CPPA advises NEPRA to raise power tariff by Rs0.22

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on Thursday recommended the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) raise the power tariff by Rs0.22 per unit in fuel adjustment charges for August, ARY News reported. According to the application by CPPA, 38.10% of electricity in August was produced using hydraulic power, while 15.39% by coal. 7.27% of electricity was produced using furnace oil, 12.49% by RLNG, 13.34% by Nuclear power plants, and 9.36% by using local gas. The per unit price of coal-produced electricity was Rs20.54, furnace oil Rs35.61, local gas Rs10.49 while power produced using RLNG cost Rs24.72 per unit. A total of 13.638 billion units of electricity were produced in August, the CPPO application read. The average production cost for August was Rs10.11 per unit and the reference fuel cost was set at Rs9.89. LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has stayed the action against former director-general (DG) of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore, Shahzad Saleem, ARY News reported on Wednesday. The LHC stayed action against Shahzad Saleem who was holding an inquiry into harassment allegations against NAB chairman Justice Retd Javed Iqbal levelled by Tayyaba Gul. KARACHI: 254 new cases of dengue virus were reported in Karachi as the provincial capital remained in grip of the mosquito-borne disease, ARY News reported on Monday. According to the provincial health department, the majority number of cases in Karachi have been reported in district Korangi, where 112 patients have been infected by the virus during the past 24 hours. CTD kills four terrorists of proscribed organisation in Quetta

QUETTA: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday claimed to have shot dead four members of the proscribed organisation in Quetta, ARY News reported. As per details, the CTD team met an encounter with terrorists in Quetta’s Hazarganji area, when their truck was asked to stop at the checkpost. ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in contempt of court proceedings today (Tuesday) after his reply was termed “unsatisfactory”, ARY News reported. PTI long march: Police purchase 40,000 teargas shells worth Rs75m

ISLAMABAD: In view of the upcoming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march, Islamabad police purchased 40,000 teargas shells worth Rs75 million, citing sources, ARY News reported on Monday. Sources told ARY News that Islamabad police purchased 40,000 teargas shells to stop PTI protestors from advancing toward the federal capital. Sources added that police headquarters have a storage capacity of 15,000 teargas shells. It was learnt that the new stock of teargas shells including 75-metre short range and 150-metre long range worth Rs75 million and an advancement payment was made by the police department. RAWALPINDI: Two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred in South Waziristan district’s Azam Warsak area on Monday during a gunfight with terrorists, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. “On 26 September 2022, terrorists fired at a military post in general area Azam Warsak, South Waziristan district,” the ISPR said. “Pakistan Army troops initiated a prompt response and effectively engaged the terrorists’ location,” the military’s media wing said in a statement. Six martyred as Pakistan Army helicopter crashes in Harnai: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: Six personnel of Pakistan Army were martyred as a helicopter crash in Balochistan’s Harnai, ARY News reported, quoting Inter-Services Public Relations.  According to ISPR, the helicopter crashed in Harnai, last night and as a result six of army personnel including two pilots were martyred. The helicopter was on the flying mission in Harnai, when it crashed. SHIKARPUR: Two dacoits were shot dead in alleged police encounter in Shikarpur on Monday, ARY News reported.   According to SSP Shiraz Nazir, the encounter took place near Shikarpur’s Rukk Link Road, where dacoits and police exchanged fire. Pakistan Navy, Air force continue rescue, relief operations in flood-hit areas

Pakistan Navy’s four flood relief centres and 18 central collection points have collected and distributed over 1758 tonnes of food, 6407 tents, and 7,27,848 litres of mineral water among flood-affected people, ARY News reported. According to the National Flood Relief Coordination Centre (NFRCC) at least 25,097 people have taken refuge in 19 Navy camps. At least 15,565 people have been rescued by 23 emergency response teams of the Pakistan Navy, the NFRCC told. The Emergency Response teams of the Pakistan Navy have 54 motorized boats, and 2 hover crafts, while two helicopters are assigned to rescue people in Sindh. The NFRCC told that a total of 478 people have been rescued via 70 flights of the Navy helicopter while 5258 ration bags were also distributed using it. Pakistan Navy also established 82 medical camps which have treated over 89,989 patients so far, the NFRCC told.
