Karachi to experience windy, partly cloudy weather today

KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast a windy and partly cloudy weather in the port city on Monday, ARY News reported.

“Currently southwesterly winds are blowing with a speed of 12 kilometers per hour, which will reach 20 to 25km per hour in the day ahead,” according to the weather office.

“The mercury presently stands at 27 degrees Celsius”, PMD stated in its weather report.

“The city’s weather has been in transition, the temperature will further drop in coming days,” according to the Met Office.

The PMD has predicted a hot and dry weather in most parts of the country today.

IMF wants friendly countries to fund Pakistan before deal

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) wants friendly countries to honor their commitments to fund cash-strapped Pakistan before the multilateral lender signs off on a $6.5 billion bailout program, ARY News reported, citing sources. As per details, Pakistan has become active to get written assurances from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about external financing to strike a staff-level agreement with the IMF. Sources having knowledge of the development said PM Office, the foreign ministry and the finance ministry have become active to meet the condition of the IMF for the confirmation of $3 billion in external funding from Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The IMF is seeking written assurance from the executive directors of Saudi Arabia and UAE about external financing to Pakistan, the sources said. NEPRA releases report on January 23 power breakdown

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has released an inquiry report on a major power breakdown in the country that took place earlier this year, ARY News reported. On January 23, several parts of the country including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Quetta had plunged into darkness as a high-tension electricity supply line between Quetta and Guddu caused a major power breakdown. As per the report, NTDC, Jinco Two Port Qasim Electric Power Company have been held responsible for the countrywide blackout. The Inquiry committee while highlighting the flaws in the power system said electricity generation was increased from wind power plants in the South, while in the North, hydel power generation was decreased.
