Mansoor Usman Awan assumes charge as AGP

ISLAMABAD: Mansoor Usman Awan on Tuesday assumed charge as the new Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP), ARY News reported.

In his informal talk with newsmen after assuming charge of his office, Mansoor Usman Khan said he will appear before Supreme Court in a constitutional petition filed by PTI over delay in Punjab and KP polls.

Will you raise an objection over the five-member SC bench? asked the journo. “We will see after appearing before the court,” the newly appointed AGP said.

Mansoor Awan is a Lahore-based lawyer. He was the counsel of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in several matters including implementation of Article 95, presidential reference on the interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Constitution.

A day earlier, President Alvi accepted the resignation of Shehzad Ata Elahi from the post of Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) and approved the name of Mansoor Usman Awan for the coveted post.

Sources said that Barrister Shehzad tendered his resignation citing ‘key reasons’, however, closer sources said that he resigned from his position due to ‘personal reasons’.

Rajanpur accident claims five lives, 20 injured

RAJANPUR: At least five people were dead and 20 others sustained injuries when a passenger bus overturned in Punjab’s Rajanpur district, ARY News reported on Sunday. Minor boy raped, murdered by uncle in Bannu

BANNU: In yet another incident of sexual assault, a four-year-old boy was allegedly raped and later killed in the Bannu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ARY News reported on Sunday. According to police, the incident took place at Jaman Road in Bannu city where a four-year-old boy was raped and killed by her maternal uncle. The suspect has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated, said police. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased child has been shifted to a hospital, the police said. Pakistan agrees to IMFs demands for revival of loan programme

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has hinted at addressing the concerns put forward by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the federal budget for FY2023-24, ARY News reported, citing sources. Pakistan’s efforts are underway to restore the stalled loan programme with the IMF and the breakthrough is likely within two days. According to sources, Pakistan has decided to address the IMF’s concerns in the budget. Sources claimed that Pakistan has started changes upon the demands of the IMF and changes are being made in the budget speech.
