Pakistan, China vow to boost defence cooperation

COAS Asim Munir discuss military ties with Chinese commander

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on his first day of official visit to China visited the PLA Army Headquarters, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.

As per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on his arrival, the COAS was presented with the guard of honour and later he reviewed the smartly turned-out contingent.

General Asim Munir discussed the “regional security situation” in his detailed meeting with the PLA commander.

“[The] COAS reviewed the smartly turned out contingent which was later followed by a detailed meeting with the Commander of PLA Army. Matters of mutual security interests and military cooperation were discussed.”

“Both military commanders reiterated the need for maintaining peace and stability in the region and enhancing military-to-military cooperation,” the military’s media wing reported.

COAs Asim Munir also witnessed a demonstration of the operational capabilities of the PLA troops and praised the high standards of training and professionalism displayed by the soldiers.

The COAS will hold further meetings with military leaders in China to enhance the long-standing relations between the two militaries, the ISPR added.

According to the army media’s wing, COAS General Syed Asim Munir is currently paying a four-day official visit to China.

This is his first visit to China since he assumed the charge as army chief on November 29

NEPRA releases report on January 23 power breakdown

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has released an inquiry report on a major power breakdown in the country that took place earlier this year, ARY News reported. On January 23, several parts of the country including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Quetta had plunged into darkness as a high-tension electricity supply line between Quetta and Guddu caused a major power breakdown. As per the report, NTDC, Jinco Two Port Qasim Electric Power Company have been held responsible for the countrywide blackout. The Inquiry committee while highlighting the flaws in the power system said electricity generation was increased from wind power plants in the South, while in the North, hydel power generation was decreased.
