ISLAMABAD: A district and session court in the federal capital on Saturday deferred the indictment of former information minister Fawad Chaudhry in the sedition case after he skipped today’s proceedings, ARY News reported.
Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra resumed hearing to frame charges against the former PTI leader.
During the hearing, Fawad’s lawyer informed that his client could not appear before the court due to illness and sought an exemption from hearing today.
At which, the judge remarked whether the former minister had been hit by heatstroke.
Later, the judge accepted the exemption plea and ordered Mr Chaudhry to appear before the court on July 7 for indictment.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Islamabad police arrested former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry from his residence earlier inn January for ‘threatening’ Election Commission of Pakistan members.
A case against Chaudhary was registered at the Kohsar police station in Islamabad on the complaint of Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Omer Hamid Khan.
The former PTI leader was booked under sections 153-A (promotion of enmity between groups), 506 (criminal intimidation), 505 (statement conducing to public mischief) and 124-A (sedition) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
