Section 144 imposed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Section 144 has been imposed for three days in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid security concerns, ARY News reported. According to a notification issued by the deputy commissioner of Peshawar, due to security concerns, section 144 has been imposed in Peshawar for three days. During these three days, a gathering of five or more people will remain banned. Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) empowers district administration to issue orders in public interest that may place a ban on an activity for a specific period of time. Such a ban is enforced by the police who register cases under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code for violations of the ban. Shalimar Express revived after eight months

The Pakistan Railways has revived the high-speed Shalimar Express passenger train after eight months, ARY News reported on Monday.  According to the Railway Department, the Shalimar Express resumed operations from Karachi to Lahore, as the first train left from Cantt. Station Karachi to Punjab’s capital. To enhance the facilities for the high-speed train, its 19 coaches have been reconditioned at Mughalpura Workshop. The passengers will get discount up to 20% on all classes of the Shalimar Express from May 1 to 15, while a 10% discount will be given to the passengers travelling from May 15 to 30 on Shalimar Express. ‘ECP stops PTI from organising rally on Labour Day’

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Fawad Chaudhry claimed on Sunday that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) stopped the political party from organising a rally on Labour Day, ARY News reported. Pakistan Railways has announced a 20 percent discount on the Shalimar train service starting from Labour Day (May 1), ARY News reported. In a statement, PR said that a 20 percent discount has been allotted on the tickets on Shalimar Express from 1st to 15th May. Khanewal teacher ‘rapes’ eight-year-old student

KHANEWAL: An 8-year-old boy was raped by his student along with his accomplice in Punjab’s Khanewal, ARY News reported on Sunday quoting police. According to police, the incident was reported in the nearby village of Khanewal. The rape-victim kid has been moved to the hospital after he fell unconscious. KARACHI: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Sunday released latest figures of the ongoing seventh population census, ARY News reported. According to the official statistics released by the authorities, Karachi’s population had increased by 1.6 million to rise over 17.6 million, according to the latest figures. Moreover, Sindh’s population has jumped by 6.46 million to reach 54.31 million. Hyderabad division came in second with a population count of 10.19 million people, followed by Larkana division with 7.9 million people. Pakistan’s short-term inflation remains above 45pc

ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation, measured by Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), witnessed an increase of 0.15pc to jump to 46.82pc on a year-on-year basis for the week ending on April 27. The SPI for the week under review in the above-mentioned group was recorded at 252.20 points as compared to 251.83 points during the past week, according to the PBS data. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined consumption group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 46.82 percent. During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 21 (41.17%) items increased, 07 (13.73%) items decreased and 23 (45.10%) items remained stable. The items, which recorded an increase in their average prices on a week-on-week (WoW), included Potatoes (8.22%), Chicken (1.75%), Wheat Flour (1.55%), Gur (1.23%), Bread (1.13%) and Rice Irri-6/9 (1.01%). Karachi likely to face severe load shedding

KARACHI: Karachi is likely to face severe load shedding as the K-Electric lost a record Rs 39.4 billion in the first 9 months of the fiscal year 2022-23, ARY News reported on Saturday.  As per details, the K-Electric losses in the 9 months of 2021-22 were Rs 1.49 billion.  The economic crisis resulted in less consumption of K-Electric units as 5.8 percent fewer units were consumed in the current fiscal year as compared to the last fiscal year.  The K-Electric has also seen a decline in bill payments amid the current inflation. The power distribution company may not provide electricity to the high-loss areas of the metropolis, K-Electric sources added. LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) team along with a heavy contingent of Punjab Police on Friday raided former Punjab Chief Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Pervaiz Elahi’s house, located at Zahoor Elahi Road in Lahore. The federal government has failed to complete the digital census process once again and made an extension for the fifth time, ARY News reported on Friday. After another extension, the digital census process will be concluded on May 15 now. The population census was due to be concluded in early April but it was extended four times earlier. Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that the seventh population census and first digital census of the country is underway. Rescue teams recover another body from Manora Beach

KARACHI: Rescue teams on Thursday recovered another body of a young man, who drowned at Manora Beach during picking, ARY News reported. Sukkur: Two die as fire erupts in Karachi Express

SUKKUR: Two persons were burnt to death when Karachi Express caught fire in Khairpur in the wee hours of Thursday night, ARY news reported. According to Pakistan Railways authorities, the train travelling from Karachi to Lahore suddenly caught fire midway when one of cabins started blazing near Tando Masti, Khairpur. The rescue operation has been completed and the fire has been put out. ISLAMABAD: For the first time in the country’s history, Pakistan on Wednesday decided to surrender government’s remaining Hajj quota to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) due to a shortfall of applications because of rising inflation, ARY News reported, citing sources. Breakthrough in negotiations between ruling coalition, PTI

ISLAMABAD: Signs of a breakthrough in negotiations between ruling coalition and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have emerged as the former has contacted Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani to break the existing political impasse, ARY News reported on Wednesday, citing sources. Sources told ARY News that federal ministers and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Azam Nazeer Tarar and Saad Rafique have contacted Senate Chairman for talks with opposition – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Monkeypox cases detected in Pakistan, special guidelines issued

Two cases of Monkeypox were reported in Pakistan for the first time which was also confirmed by the health department, ARY News reported on Tuesday. Sources within the health ministry told ARY News that the Monkeypox patients belong to the twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Sources added that both patients arrived in Pakistan on the same flight from Saudi Arabia on April 17 and they were having symptoms of the infectious disease.  According to reports, the mpox patients were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital and their blood samples were sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH). The health ministry’s spokesperson confirmed the detection of Monkeypox infectious disease in accordance with the test reports of both patients released by the NIH. Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) has issued party tickets to the candidates ahead of the Punjab elections scheduled for May 14, ARY News reported on Tuesday. PM summons Federal Cabinet, coalition parties’ sessions tomorrow

KP IG rules out terrorism from CTD police station blast in Swat

SWAT: The Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police has ruled out terrorism from the twin blasts on the CTD police station in Swat, ARY News reported on Tuesday. As per details, the KP IG said that the blast took place when the explosives inside the police station exploded.
